Just had a coffee in a shopping centre…. As can be seen in any town anywhere, there was a young family, father about 35, mother about the same and a 2-3 year old in a stroller. They sat at the table next to me. She went to order and pay and he sat with the stroller. He was lean, average, nice eyes, altogether like thousands of other young fathers. She sat down. Overweight by at least 15 kilos, most of which was around the middle, with a ‘spare tyre’ of magnificent proportions, and a derrière to match. They waited until their order arrived and then both tucked in to sandwiches and coffee. Nothing untoward, you say? No, not if you do that every day, or see it every day in every shopping centre across the country.
There is, however, one thing very wrong about this scene. It is not her fault exactly. She has been conditioned to believe that men and women are equal in this world. And that extends to eating the same meal three times a day.
