This idea is very timely for me as I have just been through a small, but daunting operation experience that has left me a bit frazzled and unwell.
It’s not that I haven’t had practice, Lord knows. There have been so many operations over the years I sometimes wonder if my life’s purpose is to give teaching practice to surgeons! But there is a Higher Reality; now if I could just catch it as it flits past me….
When you do not have the strength to concentrate on reading or listening to music, and when the television’s inanity becomes truly apparent, there is nowhere to hide but in your own thoughts. That is where you find the worst and the best of you, depending on how you control those thoughts.
We all know that “thoughts create things” so wallowing in the cold and desperate need for security, love, reassurance or anything missing currently from your life, is not only unhelpful, but actually creates more of that same cold and desperate lack that you currently bemoan.
From the Pit, somehow, you have to scale upwards to reach for that which you desire as if it already exists. Put a truly warm and welcoming smile on that face that has caused you grief. Find a treasure that you have lost and feel it to be so. Feel the love emanating from a source of your own designing.
No wonder people fell easily into any ‘love-religion’ as it made the imagery so much easier. Potted love in all shapes and sizes, redemption for everyone, ready-made. But the solution is not as effective for each of us unless we can really feel it in our own hearts as belonging to us. That is why new converts to any religion are usually more devout than those merely born into it. Once you make (or re-make) a serious and significant choice and make it your own and truly own it, you make it so for yourself forever.
So if we apply that to the Pit: make a choice today that the day is joyful and passing quietly with images to match. Feel them close to you, pick the image that means the most to you and hold that reality in your heart, infuse it with energy, re-create it every few minutes and devote a few moments to reinforcing the image, then breathe it in, slowly rising out of the Pit into the sunlight.
The clouds clear, the day opens, the pit lies behind and closing as you sail up into another world, of peace, and release.
I’m not dead and gone to Heaven, am I??
