Best of Both Worlds – Naturopath & Doctor
This is the biggest plus for you, the benefits of Natural Medicine and the discipline of Western Medicine, under one roof.
Western Medicine (plus Hormones, obviously) is what I do; Natural Medicine is what Zara does as a Naturopath. We work together very closely. So when you see one, you get the benefits of both.
We consult with each other more or less constantly. Great for you, and great for us – we get a wider view on health problem-solving than we ever could working alone.
What else should you know? Well, here’s what you need to know about Naturopaths in General, and Zara in particular:
Naturopaths – Things You Should Know
1. Zara is UBER Qualified In Her Field
Zara is a qualified and registered Naturopath with a research background and substantial lecturing experience in Naturopathy, Nutrition and Biosciences.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Applied Science (Microbiology/Biochemistry)
Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy
Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine
Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine
Currently Completing: Graduate Diploma of Biomedical Science
2. Naturopathy has Advantages over Medicine
Yes, it’s true. If someone tells you Western Medicine is the only path to health, they’re lying. Full stop.
Western Medicine has been accused of not getting to the cause your health problem; of treating the symptom, not the cause. That is changing, but often it is still true.
At its core, Naturopathy is based on seeking the source of your health problem, and addressing it.
Plus Naturopaths are more highly trained in some specific areas than GPs (and even many specialist). Areas of fatigue & energy, gut & digestion, allergy & immunity, diet & nutritional medicine are just a few areas which come to mind.
3. Naturopathy also has Disadvantages Compared to Medicine
Naturopathy takes a holistic approach to your health, which is excellent – everything in your body is connected, after all. But that doesn’t mean Naturopathy is the best treatment for everything.
No one treatment type can treat every condition. Sometimes you need a brain surgeon, a dentist, a gynaecologist, a hormone expert (hello!), a heart specialist, etc, etc.
The truth is, the best practitioners will treat you with what they’re best at. When you have a problem best treated by someone outside their field, they don’t just keep on taking your money. They tell you who to seek the best treatment from.(That’s why I refer to Zara, she refers to me, and we refer you to others).
4. NATURAL Medicine is the Key to Naturopathy
Synthetic Chemicals. Ever had a bad feeling – physically – in response to medication? Me too. It’s very unpleasant.
The side effects of many drugs, can make up a long list. Every GP has a book FILLED with them. Sometimes the side effects are unlikely, or minimal (in comparison to the amount of good the medicine can do). Sometimes there is a natural approach which a GP doesn’t know about, or hasn’t considered.
Nutrition, herbs and lifestyle. These are cornerstone Naturopathic concepts. They are key to your wellness.
And 100% Natural.
5. Prevention IS Better than A Cure …Naturopathy
Your body is a balance of chemicals. A system out of balance, is an unwell system. It starts to produce symptoms. You feel sick.
Most people go to a Naturopath when they’re unwell. It’s how we’re trained to think. Feel sick, seek help.
Zara can help get you well, sure. But she can also KEEP you well. For example: maybe your body can’t absorb a particular vitamin, so you’re always tired. Maybe you feel unwell in the belly a lot of the time, because you have an intolerance to a particular food, and you just don’t know it.
These situations aren’t like a disease, for which you take a dose of medicine from a prescription, for a period of time. The end.
Avoiding a food that irritates your bowel (a ‘gut-reaction’, literally), is KEEPING YOU WELL. Taking a ‘Practitioner’s Only’ vitamin supplement (and/or dietary changes) is about KEEPING YOU WELL.
The PREVENTION of illness is actually a very practical approach, when you look at it this way. Naturopathy is perfect for this. And Zara excels at it.
Why I Love Naturopathy
Like my own approach to treating your hormones, the core of the approach is to get your body back to NORMAL – Using NATURAL medicine.
Identifying the cause of your health issues is step one – which can be tricky to say the least, and it’s why you shouldn’t just see just any random Naturopath.
So you get to know what is happening to your body – THE CAUSE, NOT JUST THE SYMPTOM. Then, using a natural approach, you address the cause by returning your body to normal.
This is so desirable to me, even as a modern Western Doctor. Maybe it is to you too.
Blessings,
Dr Maura McGill

What is Naturopathy?
The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the whole person – mind and body. It also aims to heal the root causes of an illness — not just stop the symptoms.
The goal of naturopathic practice is to treat underlying disorders, remove obstacles to health, and to restore the body’s normal function by enhancing your bodies self healing abilities.
You don’t have to be sick to see a naturopath. These appointments can help to boost overall health or, in a lot of cases, prevent illness. Naturopathy can also help to boost your athletic performance.
What are the Benefits of Seeing a Naturopath?
It is more effective to teach than treat patients. By educating and empowering an individual, they are more likely to make positive choices and changes in their lives.
Treat the whole person: Naturopaths identify specific weaknesses or dysfunctions in their patients and tailor treatments based upon the patient’s individual presentation. Of prime importance is treating the person as a whole, not just their disease or symptoms.
Naturopathy treatments compliment General Practice and Specialists, so you don’t have to choose one system over the other.
The main goal of naturopathic treatments is to awaken and encourage the body’s natural system of healing by treating the root of the cause of the complaints. Naturopathic medicine works best when treating the “imbalanced” state – the further in to the “disease state” you are, the longer it may take to see results.
The length of time it takes to see positive results using naturopathic treatments depends on:
1) The severity of disease or symptoms
2) The compliance of the patient and their dedication
So no matter the state of your health, naturopathic medicine combined with your determination and commitment can drastically improve your well-being.
